How To Do CPR Video

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR is the technique of rescue breathing with chest compressions. The purpose of performing this technique is to keep the person uninjured and alive until the emergency unit arrives with specialized equipment to re-start the heart. CPR is strongly recommended for all medical staff especially for those that work with paper and do not have any contact with patients. The use of CPR first-aid technique is to keep the patients safe from sudden cardiac arrest and to prevent brain damage. Traditional CPR serves only for two purposes: to maintain the oxygen flowing in, out of the lungs and to keep oxygenated blood flowing throughout the body. Depending on your level of training there are three different types of CPR you can perform: (Hands Only CPR)

  • Persons that are CPR untrained- if you are CPR untrained you should perform hands-only resuscitation, this technique requires uninterrupted chest compressions with a rate of 100 compressions a minute until the emergency personnel arrive.
  • Trained but insecure- if you are trained to perform CPR but you are unsure of your skills, it is recommended that you use the hands-only method.
  • Well trained and confident- if you have taken a CPR class and you are well prepared to perform resuscitation, you can perform the compression CPR along with rescue breathing.

The Basics of CPR Training – Recognizing The Need To Perform CPR On Patient

cpr training demoIf you find yourself near an unconscious victim first you have to figure out if that person is really unconscious. First you have to call that person by her/his name, tap or gently shake in order to provoke the person to response. You should never shake an infant even if you think that the infant is unconscious. You should check breathing, pulse and color of the skin if the person looks slightly blue in the face. After you checked everything and turns out negative, there’s a good chance that the victim has stopped breathing and needs CPR.  If you perform CPR on a person that has no need you could cause damage to that person so be very certain before you administrate CPR.

If you suspect that someone is unconscious first call the emergency unit so they will be on their way while you are performing CPR. Except for choking, CPR doesn’t address to the basic reasons of cardiac arrest and other breathing emergencies, it is meant to buy time for the victim until the emergency unit comes. In order to perform CPR the person must lay on back on a hard, flat surface. If the victim is lying on any other position you must gently roll her/him toward you while supporting the neck. Once you have rolled the victim on her/his back, you can use the C-A-B method:

  • Circulation- performing chest compressions
  • Airway- clearing the obstructed airways
  • Breathing- performing mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to- nose breathing

Why Is It Good To Wear A Mask?

A resuscitations mask prevents a direct contact between the mouth, face or nose of the first aider and the victim. It prevents and helps to avoid the fear of transmission of an infectious disease and protects you from contact with vomit, blood and saliva. Mouth-to-Mask Rescue Breathing is performed by putting yourself in position of the victim’s head and use your both hands to maintain an open airway and then to hold the mask in place. Inflate the lungs by blowing through the mask with sufficient volume to force chest movement and then remove your mouth to allow exhalation. Move your head in order to listen if there is a release of air from the mouthpiece. Mask resuscitation can be done with one person, but it is better with one person more to do the compressions.
